the Nineteenth Century
The nineteenth century is one of the most incredible
centuries of all art history—crowned by artists such as William Bouguereau
and Frederic Leighton, there were more masterpieces produced during this time
than any other period in history. But tragically, these masterpieces have been either
buried or destroyed by Modernism, and just like Michelangelo led excavations
in Rome to uncover Greco-Roman civilization, a new generation of modern-day
art historians are doing just that—unearthing the buried past. Over the past five years, Mr. Sandstead has traveled
